Since 1990, the Foundation for Teaching Economics has been conducting teacher training programs for Central European economics teachers. These programs now extend to Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. With the goal of establishing locally taught and managed programs in these countries, the FTE has hosted Central European teachers at Economics for Leaders programs in the United States to prepare them for their teaching roles back home. Organizational partners have been enlisted in each country to take the lead in local fundraising and on-site management of the programs. The programs are playing a critical role in supporting the democratic and free market reforms ongoing in Central Europe. The young leaders we attract to these programs (who leave understanding the benefits of free enterprise) will be making policy decisions that affect their free markets in the future. The teachers who come are important as they influence so many students. An in-depth report covering the Central European programs is available from the FTE.
"There is a great need for Hungarians to understand
free market economics. This program provides teachers with simple, practical
and clear economic principles."
