Hot Topic Writers Wanted
FTE invites PTA members to submit Hot Topic lessons.
Selected lessons will be posted on the FTE Hot Topics website and distributed to the PTA mailing list.
$300 Stipend for Selected Lessons
*Lesson Requirements:
• “Ripped from the Headlines” – Hot Topics must be of current interest.
• Lessons must be suitable for use in a single class period.
• Lesson focus: review, practice, or application of the economic way of thinking within the context of the current events topic.
• (Note: “Less is More.” No more than 1 or 2 concepts, principles, or economic analysis tools per lesson.)
• Lessons must be submitted in FTE Hot Topic lesson format and include the following elements: (See http://www.fte.org/hottopics/ for examples.)
• A student reading that includes quotes from current sources such as newspapers, magazines, e-zines, online blogs from noted commentators, transcripts of interviews, etc. Approximate length: 500-900 words. Reading level: 9-10.
• A set of 4-7 student discussion questions.
• A teacher guide with clear and accurate answers to the discussion questions.
• Accurate source citations for all quotes and referenced materials. Internet sources must include accurate url.
• Lessons must be submitted as .doc files.
• Lessons chosen for publication become the property of the FTE and may be edited by FTE staff. FTE has no obligation to provide feedback on submitted lessons or to contact the author other than to acknowledge receipt.
*FTE may or may not choose to use any particular submitted lesson.
Hot Topics are published as the FTE deems appropriate and timely.
