Registration Policies for FTE Online Courses

CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION:

Successful registrants will be contacted by Cecily Bailey, (cbailey@fte.org, or 1-800-383-4335) the FTE course administrator, to confirm registration and ensure a working email address.

  • Failure to provide a working email address will result in removal from the course roster.
  • Confirmed registrants will receive an email containing the self registration instructions, password and course URL.

DROP / WITHDRAW POLICY: The $100 course fee is NON-REFUNDABLE and will NOT be returned to students who drop, withdraw, or fail to complete an FTE online course, for ANY reason.

REASONABLE PROGRESS POLICY: Students who fail to make reasonable progress will be dropped from the course and will NOT receive a fee refund. "Reasonable progress" is defined as having completed the pre-test and introductory assignments within 10 days of the course start date.

GRADUTE CREDIT OPTION:

Graduate credit in economics from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) is available for an additional fee of $50/semester hour.

  • Note the deadline for registration and payment for university credit for each individual course. (You many NOT register for credit after the posted date.)
  • Registration for Graduate credits is the sole responsibility of the participant.
  • The URL and deadline date for credit registration will be emailed to each participant and will also be posted in the course announcements.

Note: The FTE accepts no responsibility for determining whether the credits offered for online courses meet the participants' district, state, or university requirements for licensing, salary advancement, degrees or other qualifications.

FTE ONLINE INSTRUCTORS

Kathy Ratté is a consultant in economic education for the FTE, PERC - the Political Economy Research Center, and CCEE, the Colorado Council on Economic Education. She retired from Jefferson County Schools in suburban Denver, CO, in 2001 after 25 years as first a high school economics, civics, and history teacher and then more recently, the district high school social studies resource teacher. Currently a member of the board of trustees of CCEE, she was the recipient of its 1991 "Enterprising Teacher of the Year" award, and has also earned national 1st place (1994) and honorable mention (1996) recognition in the National Council on Economic Education's "Excellence in Economic Education" competition. Kathy currently writes curriculum, presents teacher workshops, and designs and instructs online courses for FTE, and also serves as the organization's representative to the planning committee for the upcoming (2006), Congressionally mandated National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) exam in economics.

Greg Pratt is an economics instructor at Mesa Community College (MCC) in Mesa, Arizona. He is active with the Arizona Council for Economic Education and the Arizona Society of Economics Teachers. Greg teaches macroeconomic and microeconomic principles courses, the Economic History of the US and the World Economy for MCC in both traditional and online formats. He is a member of the campus and district distance learning committees as well as an active participant in the MCC Center for Teaching and Learning. Greg is a member of the FTE's Professional Teachers Association, the Global Association of Teachers of Economics and the Arizona and National Councils for the Social Studies.

Debbie Henney is the Program Director for the Arizona Council on Economic Education. She taught high school for 10 years and currently teaches economics at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona. She is a board member for the Arizona Society of Economics Teachers as well as the Arizona Council for the Social Studies. Debbie is an online instructor and workshop presenter for the Foundation for Teaching Economics.

John Kessler - is a continuing lecturer of economics and the Director of Professional Development for the Center for Economic Education at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne in northeast Indiana. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and his master’s at the University of Delaware in Economic Education. Originally from Arizona, he served on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Council for the Social Studies and the Arizona Society of Economics Teachers. John has taught US History, Government, and Economics at the secondary level and was voted the Rookie of the Year by the Arizona Society of Economics Teachers. He has worked as an economics education consultant for the National Council on Economic Education, Arizona Council on Economic Education and the National Academy Foundation. In 2005, he traveled to Romania on an NCEE study tour to explore their transition from a command to a market economy.
