    Learn to incorporate activity-based lessons in your economics classes though FTE’s many different professional development opportunities and resources.

    Virtual Courses

    Online education is a convenient way to meet continuing education requirements from home and on your own schedule.

    FTE offers both asynchronous and synchronous programs that are designed to accommodate the schedule of working professionals.

    Graduate credit and certificates of completion available.

    In-Person Programs

    FTE offers different professional development programs for teachers. Topics range from the methodology of teaching economics to a variety of applied economics topics such as international trade, natural disasters, economic history and the environment.

    These in-person programs are offered nationwide. Stipends, certificates and graduate credit available.

    Teacher Resources

    FTE provides free resources for educators, including curriculum outlines and accompanying lesson plans.  All materials may be viewed online or downloaded.

    Lessons include background information, sources, readings, and handouts. Activities include teacher guides, materials masters, and video demonstrations.

    In-Person Programs

    FTE offers in-person programs and workshops nationwide. These programs range from two hours to one week in duration. The curriculum is a unique blend of content and pedagogy, with university professors and experienced mentor teachers providing instruction. A distinct feature of FTE programming:  participants leave workshops with interactive activities designed to engage students so they internalize each lesson’s concepts.

    All programs teach educators to apply the economic way of thinking in an affordable and professional setting.  Graduate credit in economics is available from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

    Virtual Courses

    Virtual education is a convenient way to meet continuing education requirements from home and on your own schedule. FTE’s online programs include flexibly paced, asynchronous courses and synchronous seminars designed to accommodate the schedule of working professionals.

    FTE Virtual Course participants receive:

    • Economics curriculum, including background content outlines, classroom activities, and teacher guides
    • Lecture and video demonstrations of classroom activities
    • Instruction by nationally recognized instructors
    • Online interaction (asynchronous or synchronous) with teachers throughout the United States and around the world
    • Graduate credit and “clock hour” confirmation
    • Profession development grants available for some programs

    Teacher Resources

    All FTE lessons are correlated to the National Voluntary Content Standards in Economics and to each states’ standards. Our searchable interface facilitates alignment of lesson content and activities for standards- and mastery-based instruction.

    Curriculum resources may be viewed online or downloaded. Lessons include background information, source citations, readings, and handouts. Activities include teacher guides, materials masters, and video demonstrations. Copyright permission is given for educational use of all FTE resources. Download files are editable and FTE encourages teachers to modify and adapt materials as appropriate to their specific goals and classrooms.

    Teacher Program Details

    To fulfill the Foundation for Teaching Economics’ mission to promote excellence in economic education, FTE offers different professional development opportunities to teachers. These include virtual workshops, in-person residential programs, single day seminars, and online courses.

    • Participants learn to incorporate activity-based lessons into their economics classes and also add to their content expertise.
    • Each program format provides methodological and content instruction.
    • In addition to micro- and macro-economics, programs also cover a variety of applied economic topics, such as economic history, international trade, and the environment.
    • FTE strives to make these programs accessible to all teachers. The cost is subsidized so participants pay a nominal fee to attend.
    • Different formats give teachers the option to take courses in-person or online.
    • Programs are offered nationwide so teachers have the choice of multiple dates and locations.
    • All lessons and activities are correlated with both the National Voluntary Content Standards and all 50 state standards in economics.
    • Courses are accredited through the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs and graduate level credit is available.
