Recent Alumni Profile – Lea Vallone

Applications are still rolling for select sites. Please visit our website at https://fte.org/students/economics-for-leaders-program/sites-dates/  for the most up to date information about which locations are still accepting applications!

We are still offering scholarships for our sites at Wake Forest, Washington University, Oberlin, Santa Barbara, and the University of Washington. Hear from Economics for Leaders Alum, Lea, who attended her program at Brown University on a scholarship in 2017!

Travelling to Providence, Rhode Island to attend EFL at Brown University was Lea’s first time away on an academic scholarship. She wasn’t sure what to expect but ended her week with new perspectives saying, “This experience truly surprised me in all the best ways, I would’ve never expected to learn all that I did”. She feels very thankful for all the opportunities that EFL has provided.

Her favorite parts of the experience were classes, leadership challenges and life long friends. While at Brown she met other students from all around the country and even the world.

Of her economics classes Lea says,

“The teachers made our classes so exciting because the kept the classrooms interactive and provided feedback and it was definitely not a boring lecture. We learned new and innovative ways to apply techniques to real world situations. This combined with leadership activities has made me flourish as a person, and the way I look at life is completely different now.”

Lea is currently a senior at her high school St. Francis Preparatory and has a passion for law and politics. She enjoys understanding the analytical and critical thinking side of politics and plans to pursue Political Science in college.
