TONY POEHLING (EFL Madison 1999) – Tony is passionate about the integration of economics and leadership, attributing much of the positive path he continues to take throughout life to the week he spent as a student on his EFL program. This is Tony’s 15th summer working with the FTE, and during that time he proudly served as Program Coordinator, Leadership Coordinator, and now Student Administrator for the EFL programs. Previous to his current profession, Tony led a team of talented facilitators as Director of Operations at an innovative experiential education company, Fulcrum Learning Systems, based in Santa Monica, CA. During his time at Fulcrum he was co-creator and lead facilitator of on-going educational programs that include: Los Angeles Unified School District’s, C.L.I.M.B. On! after-school program, The Curtis School’s TCAL curriculum and the Thousand Oaks Police Department’s STAND PROUD initiative.
Tony has degrees in finance, accounting and mathematics from the University of Wisconsin, School of Business and spent a year studying international economics at Copenhagen Business School. After college, Tony immersed himself in the teachings of value investors Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett which he applies in his current profession as a portfolio manager and securities analyst for SEC Registered Investment Advisory firm, Poehling Capital Management, outside Minneapolis, MN. He is an avid sports fan, and enjoys traveling to home or away games for all the MN teams, the Chicago Cubs and his favorite, the LA Galaxy.
