Costs & Scholarships

The cost to attend EFL is $1,800, which includes lodging, most meals, and course materials.  Participants are also responsible for the cost of transportation to and from the program site, as well as incidental spending money.  There is also a $25 processing fee upon submitting your application.

Scholarship Information

FTE strives to make its programs accessible and affordable to the best and brightest students regardless of financial status. Scholarship funding is awarded based on a combination of factors, including:

  • Financial need
  • Leadership activities
  • Academic and extracurricular achievement
  • Site selection

Scholarship assistance typically ranges from $100 to $1000.  Please note that full-tuition scholarships of $1,800 are extremely rare.  Also, scholarship funding is not the same at all EFL sites.  Popular sites such as Yale, Berkeley, Brown, and Cornell have very limited funding available.  If you know you need financial assistance to attend EFL, please consider applying to alternate sites, as your chances will be higher of receiving aid.

Finally, scholarship requests to attend program sites that are a significant distance away will not be considered favorably, especially if there is a much closer EFL site to your home.  (For example, if you live in California but are asking for scholarship help to go to EFL New Haven (Yale), your chances of receiving aid are  less than if you ask for aid to attend EFL Berkeley.)

To Request Scholarship Assistance

To apply, please fill out the scholarship section when completing the EFL Student Application. Applications are reviewed for scholarship funding at the same time as program admission.  Admission and award notifications will be received via email within two weeks of submission.

We are offering a special scholarship opportunity for students interested in attending our Economics for Leaders program at Southern Methodist University this summer. If chosen, students attending this program will receive a full scholarship ($1,800). Students will still be responsible for transportation to and from the program, as well as all incidental costs while in attendance. The EFL program at SMU has its own application – if interested, please click here to begin your application.
